Ingredients

  • ¼ cup olive oil

  • ¼ cup white wine vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives

  • 2 teaspoons minced shallot

  • 2 teaspoons white sugar

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Place oil, vinegar, dill, chives, shallot, sugar, salt, and pepper in a screw-top jar. Cover and shake well to combine.

Cook's Notes:

You can vary vinaigrettes by following a simple formula: 1/4 cup oil (such as olive, avocado, or sesame), 1/4 cup something sour (white wine vinegar, lime juice, or rice vinegar), 1 tablespoon something herby (dill, chives, green onion, or cilantro), 2 teaspoons something zippy (shallot, ginger, or jalapeno), 2 teaspoons something sweet (sugar, maple syrup, or agave syrup), 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.
